Once we looked at the portraits of Picasso and talked about Cubism and his style, we created our own painted Picasso portraits.
1. We began with a sketch in pencil that filled the 9 x 12 white paper making sure to use different viewpoints (front and side views of eyes, noses, mouths.)
2. We used oil pastels to add some color and patterns, making sure to leave some white paper as we painted over the oils. Be sure to press dark with the oils so the paint will resist.
3. We used watercolors and painted over the oil pastels, making sure to choose different colors to contrast our oil pastel colors.
